DOFOTT

Don't forget travel time.

In Google Calendar, travel time is something you add by hand, if you remember: one way, with a number you guessed. DOFOTT puts the real trip from Google Maps before and after every event with a location, there and back, by car, transit, bike or on foot. You set your address once. Then forget it.

What it does

Moves with your events

Move or resize an event and its travel block follows within seconds. Delete the event and the block goes.

Multiple calendars

Every calendar in your account you can write to. Tick the ones you want; the rest are left alone.

Recurring events

One recurring block for a recurring event. Change a single occurrence and only that date changes.

Override any event

Each block links to a small page for that trip: mode, starting point, return, or no travel at all.

Smart travel

Two events back to back? If going straight from the first is shorter than coming from home, that is what you get.

Buffer time

Add five, ten or fifteen minutes to every trip for parking and finding the door.

Mute notifications

Travel blocks stay quiet and show you as free. Your own events keep their reminders.

Pick your color

Blocks take any of the eleven Google Calendar colors, or your calendar's default.

What it does not do

Free while in beta.

The beta ends when DOFOTT has run for thirty days for at least ten people without touching anyone's own event, bringing back a deleted block, or writing the same block twice. When a paid plan comes you will hear about it by email at least thirty days ahead, and the blocks already in your calendar stay.

Questions

What do I need?

A Google account with Google Calendar. Connect once, set your address, and that is the whole setup.

Does it work on my phone?

The blocks are ordinary calendar events, so they show wherever your Google Calendar does. There is nothing to install.

Which calendars does it use?

Any calendar in your account that you can write to. Your primary calendar is on by default; tick the others on the settings page.

I use Apple Calendar. Does it work?

If the events you look at live in a Google account — the usual case when a Google account is added to Apple Calendar — then yes, and the blocks come down to Apple Calendar like any other event. If they live in iCloud, DOFOTT cannot see them. How to tell which one you have

Is it free?

Free for everyone during the beta. A paid plan comes later, with thirty days of notice by email; existing blocks are never removed.

I added it, I did not like it. How do I remove it?

On the settings page, "Delete account and remove all DOFOTT blocks" takes every block out of your calendar, deletes your data and revokes DOFOTT's access at Google, immediately. You can also cut the access from your Google account; the blocks then stay until you delete them yourself. Google account: third-party connections
