Add travel time to Akiflow

Akiflow has no travel-time feature. Its buffer time keeps a fixed gap between meetings people book through your availability link; it doesn't put the drive in your calendar. DOFOTT writes a travel block before and after every event with a location straight into your Google account, and Akiflow shows those blocks with the rest of your day. Nothing to install in Akiflow.

Why Akiflow can't do this on its own

Akiflow is a planner on top of your calendars. It pulls tasks in from your other tools and lets you drag them onto the Google or Outlook calendars you connect. The calendars stay where they are; Akiflow shows them and writes to them.

What it has for gaps is buffer time, under Share Availability: the same number of minutes around every slot someone books through your link. It doesn't know where a meeting is, it doesn't look anything up on a map, and it adds nothing to your calendar. Akiflow tasks can carry a location now, but there's still no drive time before them.

Travel time needs both of those things: a Google Maps lookup for the trip, and a busy block that lives in the calendar itself, so your colleagues, your booking link and your phone all see it.

Three steps

Check that your Google account is connected in Akiflow. Settings › Integrations › Google Calendar. If you already see your Google events in Akiflow, this step is done.
Connect DOFOTT. On dofott.com, click Connect Google Calendar and sign in with Google. Set your home address, a work address if you have one, and how you travel: driving, transit, walking or cycling.
That's it. DOFOTT adds a travel block before and after every event with a location in the calendars you tick. Akiflow shows them as soon as it has them from Google.

What you'll see in Akiflow

The drive is already on the calendar when you plan. Drag a task onto your day and the time you'll spend on the road is visibly taken, so the task lands before you leave or after you're back, not on the drive.
The blocks are busy time. Your availability link treats them like any other busy event, so nobody books you while you're on the road. The one exception is an invitation you haven't said yes to: its blocks stay free until you do, because a meeting that may not happen shouldn't close off the time.
Move the meeting, the blocks follow. Reschedule a meeting in Akiflow; the change goes to Google, DOFOTT hears about it there and moves the blocks with it. Change the location and the durations change. Delete the meeting and the blocks go.
Every device. The blocks live in your Google account, so Akiflow shows them wherever you open it, computer or phone.
One button to undo. Delete account and remove all DOFOTT blocks in DOFOTT's settings takes out every block it created. Your calendar goes back to how it was.

Things to know

Google accounts only. If you've connected an Outlook calendar to Akiflow, DOFOTT can't add travel time to it yet.
Tasks get blocks when they're in Google. DOFOTT reads your Google calendar, not Akiflow. A task you time-block onto a Google calendar, with its location, gets travel blocks like any meeting; a task that only lives in Akiflow's list doesn't.
Recurring meetings get one recurring block, not a separate block for every week.
The durations come from Google Maps, for the time of day the meeting starts: live traffic when driving, timetables for transit. If you want slack for parking or finding the room, add a 5, 10 or 15-minute buffer in DOFOTT's settings.

Does Akiflow have a travel time feature?

Do I need to install anything in Akiflow?

No. DOFOTT connects to your Google account once. Akiflow already reads that account, so the blocks appear on their own.

Will my Akiflow availability link respect the travel blocks?

Yes. The blocks are busy events in Google Calendar, so the time shows as taken. The one exception is an invitation you have not said yes to: its blocks stay free until you do.

I use Akiflow with Outlook. Does this work?

Not yet. DOFOTT works with Google Calendar accounts. If Akiflow shows both, only the Google calendars get travel blocks.

Is DOFOTT free?

Free during beta. When a paid plan comes, you get 30 days' notice by email, and the blocks already in your calendar stay.

How do I remove the blocks?

One button in DOFOTT's settings deletes your account and every block it created.
